What does it take to be a MSP? An MSP must have the resources, experience, and dedication to make sure clients receive excellent support, have relatively few technology issues, and pay a fixed monthly price based on the number of systems in their environment, and the on-site response time SLA necessary to support their business.
What are the responsiblities of a MSP? MSP's must monitor customer systems and networks, take proactive steps to insure potential issues are addressed prior to them becoming service outages. Respond on-site to resolve issues within a strict SLA (Service level agreement) to restore service. SLA is based on coverage levels, issue severity and contract agreement. MSP's also provide customers long term strategic services such as planning, budgeting and documentation included in the cost of service. Managed Services Providers must deliver more complete and reliable IT services than can be delivered by a "break/fix" consulting model where monitoring services and around the clock coverage is limited or non-existant.
